Rough Gauge Fields, Smearing and Domain Wall Fermions

چکیده
At a fixed lattice spacing, as determined by say mρ, adding additional fermion flavors to a dynamical simulation produces rougher gauge field configurations at the lattice scale. For domain wall fermions, these rough configurations lead to larger residual chiral symmetry breaking and larger values for the residual masses, mres. We discuss ongoing attempts to reduce chiral symmetry breaking for Nf = 3 dynamical domain wall fermion simulations by different smoothing choices for the gauge fields.

The domain - wall model in an asymptotic - free dynamics
We investigate a possibility that the rough gauge problem, which have appeared to be a main reason for failures of lattice chiral gauge theories, is cured by an asymptotic-free dynamics. Taking the domain-wall model in 2(+1) dimensions with SU(2) gauge group, we carry out the quenched simulation of gauge fields in the extra dimension. By studying fermion spectra in several volumes, we show that...
متن کاملPerturbative study for domain-wall fermions in 4+1 dimensions.
We investigate a U(1) chiral gauge model in 4+1 dimensions formulated on the lattice via the domain-wall method. We calculate an effective action for smooth background gauge fields at a fermion one loop level. From this calculation we discuss properties of the resulting 4 dimensional theory, such as gauge invariance of 2 point functions, gauge anomalies and an anomaly in the fermion number curr...
متن کاملDomain wall fermion zero modes on classical
The domain wall approach to lattice fermions employs an additional dimension, in which gauge fields are merely replicated, to separate the chiral components of a Dirac fermion. It is known that in the limit of infinite separation in this new dimension, domain wall fermions have exact zero modes, even for gauge fields which are not smooth. We explore the effects of finite extent in the fifth dim...

متن کاملEnd States, Ladder Compounds, and Domain-Wall Fermions
A magnetic field applied to a cross-linked ladder compound can generate isolated electronic states bound to the ends of the chain. After exploring the interference phenomena responsible, I discuss a connection to the domain-wall approach to chiral fermions in lattice gauge theory. The robust nature of the states under small variations of the bond strengths is tied to chiral symmetry and the mul...
